Altenrhein is the smallest airport we drive to and, for the Arlberg, one of the most practical. One hall on the lake shore, a few steps to the vehicle — and then a little over an hour to the ski resorts. There is no long run across Switzerland as there is from Zurich: Vorarlberg begins a few minutes after you set off.
We drive private transfers only. There is no shared shuttle, no waiting for passengers off other flights and no stops that are not yours. Your driver meets you in the arrivals area, helps with cases and ski bags, and takes you to the door of your resort accommodation. Both vignettes are included, so are child seats, and if your flight is late the driver waits at no extra cost.

Altenrhein Airport: Small, Swiss and Close to the Arlberg
St. Gallen or Altenrhein?
Both, and it is the same airport. It is officially Airport St. Gallen–Altenrhein: it sits at Altenrhein on Lake Constance and carries the name of the city about twenty kilometres away. If your ticket says “St. Gallen”, this is the right page — and so it is for “Altenrhein” or the code ACH.
In the four-country corner
The airport sits on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance, where Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Liechtenstein meet — and immediately on the border with Vorarlberg. That is the whole advantage of arriving here: you land at the foot of the mountains already, and the drive does not start with an hour of flat country.
The closest airport for Stuben, Zürs and Lech
Of the six airports we drive from, Altenrhein is the closest for three of the five ski resorts — and that is here because it is in the table, not because it reads well. It is 95 kilometres to Stuben, 110 to Zürs and 118 to Lech. Only for St. Anton is Innsbruck narrowly closer, at 100 kilometres.
One price for all five
And because the road is the same for all of them as far as Langen, every resort costs the same: €300 per vehicle. Where you are staying on the Arlberg changes nothing about the price — the flattest of all six airports.
Altenrhein Airport Transfer Pickup: Where We Meet You
The smallest airport we drive to
One hall, one arrivals area, no second building and no terminal complex to cross after landing. It is a few steps from the baggage belt to the vehicle — and at an airport this size, “we meet you at arrivals” means exactly one place.
After you land
After you land you collect your bags as usual. Your driver is waiting beyond that, in the arrivals area, holding a sign with your name on it if you have asked for one. A private transfer waits for you; you do not queue for it and you do not go looking for a taxi rank.
What makes the meeting point certain
Three things take the uncertainty out of the meeting point. First, we track your flight number, so the pickup time moves with your flight — including when it lands early. Second, you get your driver’s mobile number the day before, and he has yours. Third, there is a number that is answered around the clock.

The Road Your Altenrhein Airport Transfer Takes into the Alps
Every private transfer we drive from Altenrhein takes the same corridor, whichever ski resort is at the end of it, and it begins practically at the foot of the mountains. From the airport it is a few minutes to the border: we cross at Höchst and we are in Vorarlberg.
And here something drops away that every other approach from the west brings with it: the Pfänder tunnel. Arriving from Friedrichshafen or Memmingen you enter Austria north of Bregenz and pass under the Pfänder. We cross south of it — the tunnel never comes into it.
From there the route follows the Rhine valley south, past Dornbirn and Feldkirch to Bludenz. There the S16 begins and the valley narrows — this is the Klostertal, past Dalaas and Klösterle, climbing to Langen am Arlberg.
At Langen the roads part, and here too Altenrhein is the exception. Stuben lies three kilometres further up the L197. For Zürs and Lech the way is over the Flexenstraße, for St. Christoph over the top of the pass. Only one road from here takes the Arlberg tunnel: the one to St. Anton. From Innsbruck it is the other way round — four of the five go through it.
One border, two vignettes, and for four of the five resorts no tunnel at all. You stop at no counter along the way: both vignettes and the tolls are paid before you get in. Just keep your ID or passport to hand — Switzerland is in Schengen but not in the EU customs union, and a check at Höchst is possible.

There is more than one way from the airport into the mountains. Which one suits you depends on how many of you there are, how much you are carrying, and when you land.

From about three people with ski luggage onwards, a private transfer is usually the simpler answer and often the cheaper one too, because the price is for the vehicle and does not climb with each passenger. Every other option ends at a station or a stop; only the private transfer ends at the door of your resort accommodation.
Altenrhein Airport Transfers in Winter
Short does not mean easy
A little over an hour sounds like an ordinary airport drive, and as far as Bludenz it is one: valley motorway, cleared all year. Once the S16 enters the Klostertal that changes. From there it is high alpine country, and snowfall means something different from what it meant down at the lake.
Where exactly it counts
Most of all on the last kilometres: the Flexenstraße up to Zürs and Lech, which can close for a while in heavy snow, and the climb into Stuben out of Langen. That is why we run four-wheel drive, winter tyres and chains on board all season.
What that means for your booking
For you that means two things. First, in winter we plan for realistic journey times rather than the best a dry summer evening would give. Second, for the return we work with 3.5 hours of lead time and call you the day before to set the pickup against the conditions that morning.

Skis and snowboards travel outside on the rear rack and cost nothing extra. It keeps the inside of the vehicle for the people, and a group of eight with equipment travels as one vehicle rather than two.
Child and booster seats are free and already fitted when we collect you, as long as you tell us the ages. Every vehicle is four-wheel drive with winter equipment.

Skis and snowboards travel outside, on a rack fitted to the rear door, and they cost nothing extra. The rack keeps the cabin for the people — which is why a group of eight with equipment still travels as one vehicle rather than two.

Passengers and luggage are two different questions, and the second one is the one people forget: eight seats do not automatically mean eight large cases plus eight ski bags.
