The Arlberg
The ski area itself — St. Christoph, Stuben, Zürs, Lech and Oberlech above it, all within half an hour and all on the same lift pass as St. Anton.

The Stanzertal
The valley east of St. Anton, along the road to Landeck. Chalets and apartments here are often better value, and the drive is a matter of minutes.

The Paznaun valley
Ischgl, Kappl and Galtür, over the hill from Landeck. A separate ski area with its own pass — worth knowing before you book a lift ticket.

Vorarlberg and the Rhine valley
West of the pass, down the Klostertal. Bludenz is where the S16 meets the motorway, and Feldkirch is the junction where the lines to Switzerland and Liechtenstein split off — both are useful if you are carrying on by train. Dornbirn and Bregenz sit further down towards Lake Constance, and Schruns is up the Montafon, a ski area of its own.

Further into Tirol
East down the Stanzertal and along the Inn valley. Imst and Telfs are on the way to Innsbruck; at Ötztal Bahnhof the road turns south up the Ötztal to Sölden and Obergurgl. Kitzbühel is further east again, past Innsbruck.

Onwards into Switzerland and Liechtenstein
The Swiss border is about an hour and a half west of St. Anton. We drive across it regularly — to Davos, Klosters and St. Moritz when someone is combining two ski areas in one trip, to Vaduz, and to the stations at Buchs and Sargans where the Swiss rail network starts.
It is the same road as the first half of a Zurich transfer: down the Klostertal, past Bludenz and Feldkirch into the Rhine valley, then south into Graubünden. One vehicle, one journey, no changing trains with ski bags at the border. Border crossing and tolls are on us.
