Lech am Arlberg: The Village We Drive To
Lech sits at 1,444 metres in a side valley of its own, on the Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg, with Oberlech on the shelf above it and the hamlet of Zug a few minutes further up the valley. It is one village with three addresses, and which of the three you are staying at changes the last part of the journey more than anywhere else on the mountain.
For a transfer that matters before it matters anywhere else. Six airports serve Lech, and the six roads are genuinely different from one another — but they all end the same way, on the Flexenstraße, because there is no other road in.
The figures for all six are below. What is worth knowing first is that the last fifteen minutes are the same whichever airport you flew into, and that they are the part we watch.
Transfers to Lech from Six Airports

What the Fixed Price to Lech Includes
The transfer price you are given when you book is the price you pay. It is for the vehicle and for up to eight people, not per seat, and it does not move because the flight lands later or because there is more luggage than expected.

The 60 minutes of waiting
The clock starts at the actual landing, not the scheduled one. Inside Schengen it is typically 15 to 25 minutes from touchdown to the arrivals hall, from outside it takes longer because passport control is added — both run inside that hour. If the flight itself is delayed, the pickup moves with it in full and the hour starts again.
Changes and cancellation
You can change or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the pickup. If the flight changes earlier than that — and in winter it sometimes does — just send us the new number; it does not create a new price as long as it is the same journey.
Paying
By card or in cash, before or after the journey. Nothing is taken when you book, and there is no card fee that appears at the end.
The Flexenstraße: The Only Way into Lech
Every transfer into Lech, from every one of the six airports, finishes on the same five kilometres. The Flexenstraße climbs from the junction at Alpe Rauz through the galleries built to hold the slope above it, past Zürs, and drops into Lech. It is the highest and most exposed stretch of road on the Arlberg, and for us it is not a place on a map — it is a road our drivers are on every day of the season.
From the west — Zurich, Altenrhein, Friedrichshafen, Memmingen
The drive runs up the Rhine valley to Bludenz, along the Klostertal past Klösterle, and leaves the S16 at Langen. Then it is up past Stuben to Alpe Rauz and onto the Flexenstraße. No Arlberg tunnel and no pass: the road goes round the north side of the mountain rather than through it.
From the east — Innsbruck
Up the Inn valley to Landeck, onto the S16 and into the Stanzertal, then over the Arlbergpass itself — past St. Christoph at 1,800 metres — down to Alpe Rauz and onto the Flexenstraße. It stays inside Austria from beginning to end: no border and no tunnel toll, but a mountain pass, and the pass is what makes this drive what it is.
From the north — Munich
The longest of the six goes round the north side of the Arlberg too, down to Bludenz and up the Klostertal, so neither the Arlberg tunnel nor the Arlbergpass comes into it. What is not a choice, from Munich as from anywhere else, is the Flexenstraße.
What that means for your pickup time
It means the last fifteen minutes carry the weight of the whole journey, and it means we know by the evening before what they are doing. The Flexenstraße is cleared early and watched closely, because the whole of Lech and Zürs is behind it. That is not a promise about the weather; it is early warning, and early warning is what turns a missed flight into a slightly earlier breakfast.
Where in Lech We Drop You
In Lech itself the car comes to the door like anywhere else, and the same is true in Zug, up the valley. Oberlech is the exception, and it is the one thing worth settling when you book rather than when you land.
Oberlech: the village above the village
Oberlech sits on a shelf above Lech and is car-free. Guests and luggage reach it by the cable car, and goods go up through a tunnel underneath. That means a transfer to an Oberlech hotel ends at the valley station rather than at the hotel door, and the last stretch is made by cabin — with the luggage often travelling separately from the people.
Which way it works depends on the time
There are three ways it can be done, and your arrival time decides which: luggage through the goods tunnel while you follow by cable car; everything together on one cabin; or, for a flight that lands late enough that neither is running, an arrangement we make beforehand. Tell us the hotel when you book and we will tell you which of the three applies to you.
What we need from you
The name of the hotel, chalet or apartment — in Lech, Oberlech, Zug or Stubenbach. If the lane is narrow or has not been cleared, we stop at the nearest point we can reach and help with the luggage. These are addresses we know rather than addresses we look for on arrival day.
Luggage, Skis and Children on the Way to Lech
Skis and snowboards
Skis and boards travel outside, on a rack fitted to the rear door, and they cost nothing extra. That is why a group of eight with equipment travels as one vehicle rather than two — and nobody spends two hours with a ski bag across their knees.
Cases and passengers are two questions
Eight seats do not automatically mean eight large cases plus eight ski bags. Tell us both when you book and the vehicle that fits both is the one that comes. There is no luggage surcharge.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are free and already fitted when we collect you — just tell us the ages. There is no need to fly with your own seats for the sake of the drive from the airport.
Families and Groups Arriving in Lech
A private transfer is a vehicle reserved for your group and nobody else. There are no other passengers to collect and no stops that are not yours — the drive runs from the arrivals hall to the door of where you are staying in Lech. After a day of flying with children that is the difference between one journey and a chain of connections.
Up to eight in one vehicle
Eight people with cases and ski equipment travel in one vehicle, because the skis ride outside on the rear rack. Above eight we send two, each at its own fixed price, and both arrive at the same door at the same time. Tell us the group size when you book rather than at the airport.
Winter arrivals in Lech
All season we run four-wheel drive, winter tyres and chains on board, and in winter we plan for realistic journey times rather than the best a dry summer night would give. And outside winter
We drive all year, at the same fixed prices. In summer Lech is walking and cycling country, and bikes travel with us when arranged beforehand.
Reaching Lech Without Flying
There is no railway station in Lech. The nearest platforms are at Langen am Arlberg, down the Flexenstraße and past Stuben, and at St. Anton am Arlberg on the other side of the mountain. Either way the train is a two-stage journey before it has begun: something has to carry you from the platform up the Flexenstraße.
With hand luggage and in good weather it is a perfectly reasonable way to travel. It is the wrong answer on the morning the Flexenstraße is the reason you would have left early anyway.
If the train is what you want, we drive the road part of it: from Lech, Oberlech or Zug to Langen am Arlberg or to St. Anton am Arlberg, whichever station your ticket needs. Tell us which one and we take you there.

The return transfer is the same road in the other direction, but the question changes: arriving, you get there when you get there; leaving, a flight decides when your day starts. So we work the pickup time backwards from your departure and ring the day before to set it.

Which airport is closest to Lech?
Altenrhein Airport, at 118 kilometres and about 1h 30min of driving. The cheapest transfer is a different airport again — Innsbruck Airport, from €300 — so closest and cheapest do not point the same way here. The table above has all six with distance, journey time and fixed price, and which one suits you is decided by the flight in the end rather than by the map.
How much does a transfer to Lech cost?

Do you drive up to Oberlech?
Oberlech is car-free and reached by cable car, so a transfer ends at the valley station rather than at the hotel door. Depending on your arrival time the luggage goes up through the goods tunnel while you follow by cabin, or everything travels together. Tell us the hotel when you book and we settle which beforehand.
Do you collect from Zug and Stubenbach as well?
Yes — every transfer starts at your own door, in Lech, Oberlech, Zug and Stubenbach alike. If the lane is too narrow in winter or has not been cleared, we stop at the nearest point we can reach and help with the luggage.
Is the Flexenstraße a problem in winter?
It is the most exposed road on the Arlberg, which is also why it is cleared early and watched closely — the whole of Lech and Zürs is behind it. We know what it is doing before you are awake, and if it is going to move your pickup time you hear it the evening before rather than on the morning.
Can you carry skis and snowboards?
Yes, free of charge on every transfer. Ski and board bags travel outside on the rear rack, so the inside of the vehicle stays for the people. Tell us how many when you book.
