Of every airport we drive from, Innsbruck is the one closest to the Arlberg: around a hundred kilometres, and the drive is over in about an hour and a quarter. For a family with tired children that is not the same thing as two hours and twenty minutes from Zurich — it is the difference between a journey and half a travelling day.
Your driver meets you in arrivals, helps with cases and ski bags, and takes you to the door of where you are staying. Tolls are included, so are child seats, and if your flight is late the driver waits at no extra cost.

Innsbruck Airport: The Gateway to the Arlberg
Where the airport sits
Innsbruck Airport sits at the western edge of the city, in the Inn valley, in the middle of Tyrol. This is not a lowland airport from which the mountains still have to begin: they are already there when you step out. And the motorway that runs west towards the Arlberg starts more or less at the door.
Tyrol on one side of the Arlberg, Vorarlberg on the other
The Arlberg is the line between Tyrol and Vorarlberg, and that explains the drive better than any number of kilometres does. St. Anton am Arlberg is still in Tyrol, at the far end of the same valley system that begins at the airport. Stuben, Zürs and Lech lie beyond the top of the pass, in Vorarlberg — which is why they are a little further and why the road to them goes through the tunnel.
What that means for your arrival
In practice that means three things. The road is the shortest of all six airports we drive from. It crosses no border. And it does not start with an hour of driving before the first mountains appear — it starts in the valley that climbs to the Arlberg.
That is why Innsbruck is the airport of choice for many guests whose destination is an Arlberg ski resort: a short road, one country, one private transfer from the arrivals hall to the door. Plenty of other Tyrolean ski resorts lie close to this airport as well — we drive to the Arlberg and nowhere else, which is exactly why we know the road as well as we do.
Innsbruck Airport Transfer Pickup: Where We Meet You
One hall, no second terminal
Innsbruck Airport is a single hall, and that is the part that works in your favour. Check-in and departures are on the right as you stand facing the building, arrivals on the left. There is no second terminal to find and no train under the building — with ski bags in tow you notice the difference straight away.
After you land
After you land you collect your bags as usual. Your driver is waiting beyond that, in the arrivals area — where arriving passengers come out, not outside at the kerb. A private transfer waits for you; you do not queue for it. He will hold a sign with your name on it if you ask for one.

The Road Your Innsbruck Airport Transfer Takes into the Alps
Every private transfer we drive from Innsbruck takes the same corridor, whichever ski resort is at the end of it, and it runs west from beginning to end. From the airport the road joins the A12 at Kranebitten and follows the Inn valley upstream, past Telfs, Imst and Zams.
At Landeck the A12 becomes the S16 Arlberg Schnellstraße and the valley narrows: this is the Stanzertal, the climb that turns the drive into a mountain drive. St. Anton am Arlberg sits at the top of it — and that is where the roads part.
The difference is worth knowing. For St. Anton we do not use the Arlberg road tunnel: the exit lies about a hundred metres before the tunnel mouth, and the drive turns off before it. For villages beyond the Arlberg — Stuben, Zürs, Lech, Klösterle and Langen — the road goes through the tunnel and climbs on from there. The toll is inside the fixed price either way.
One thing that other airports bring with them is simply absent here: there is no border. The drive stays inside Austria from the first metre to the last — no check, no second vignette, nobody digging out a passport.

There is more than one way from the airport into the mountains. Which one suits you depends on how many of you there are, how much you are carrying, and when you land.

From about three people with ski luggage onwards, a private transfer is usually the simpler answer and often the cheaper one too, because the price is for the vehicle and does not climb with each passenger. Where the drive asks something of the car
Most of the drive is valley expressway and stays clear through the middle of winter. It is the last stretch that asks something of the car: the climb through the Stanzertal onto the Arlberg, and for the resorts beyond it the roads that carry on higher still. Snowfall up there means something entirely different from what it meant down on the Inn.
Four-wheel drive, winter tyres and chains
That is why we run four-wheel drive, winter tyres and chains on board all season. The Flexenstraße and the pass roads can close for a while in heavy snow; when they do there is nearly always another way, and your driver knows it because he drives it all winter.
What that means for your booking
For you that means two things. First, in winter we plan for realistic journey times rather than the best time a dry summer night would give. Second, for return journeys we call you the day before and set the pickup time against the conditions that morning, instead of fixing it weeks earlier and hoping.

Skis and snowboards travel outside on the rear rack and cost nothing extra. That is not a detail: it keeps the inside of the vehicle for the people, and nobody spends the drive with a ski bag across their knees.
Child and booster seats are free and already fitted when we collect you, as long as you tell us the ages. Every vehicle is four-wheel drive with winter equipment.
