Taxi from St. Anton to Davos

A taxi from St. Anton am Arlberg to Davos costs from €470 for one to three passengers and from €490 for four to eight, per vehicle and one way, at any hour. It is about 133 kilometres and something under two hours. Klosters is on the same road, roughly ten minutes before Davos, and we drive there as part of the same run — say which one you want when you book.

The route leaves Austria the way our Zurich transfers do: the Arlberg tunnel, the Klostertal, then motorway past Feldkirch and Buchs to Sargans. There it turns south, up the Prättigau through Klosters, and over the Wolfgangpass at about 1,630 metres into Davos.

That last pass is the part worth knowing about. The Wolfgangpass is kept open all year and the gradient never goes beyond about ten per cent, so it is not a dramatic road — but it is a pass, it is high, and in a serious blizzard it can shut for a few hours. Our cars carry chains through the winter and our drivers fit them, which is the ordinary answer to that and not a special service.

Davos and Klosters are one ski area with their own lift pass, separate from Ski Arlberg — worth checking before you buy anything, because the two are not interchangeable. Guests who split a week between the Arlberg and the Prättigau are the main reason this drive gets booked, and it is one journey with the skis in the back rather than three trains with them on a trolley.

One week a year is different. The World Economic Forum takes over Davos each January: the town fills, the roads around it are managed, and everything gets harder to arrange at short notice. If your travel falls in that week, book as far ahead as you can and tell us what it is for — it changes how we plan the day, not whether we drive it.
