Innsbruck Airport to Lech am Arlberg Transfers From €300 per vehicle

A private transfer from Innsbruck Airport to Lech am Arlberg costs from €300 per vehicle, one way. The price is for the vehicle and not per person: two of you or eight of you, the figure is the same.

That figure is fixed the moment you book — no meter, no supplement for luggage or ski equipment, and no bill at the end that differs from the quote at the start. The same €300 covers Lech, Oberlech and Zug, because the drive to the far end of the village is the same drive. Every transfer is door-to-door: one vehicle, one driver, your group only.

Innsbruck is the cheapest way to Lech

Innsbruck is closer to Lech than any other major airport, and that shows directly in the price: the transfer from Zurich Airport covers 200 km in about 2 hours 20 minutes and starts at €460. Through Innsbruck it is 122 km, 1 hour 35 minutes and from €300 — the same accommodation, about €160 less. That makes Innsbruck the most affordable of the major airports for a private transfer to Lech.

What you trade for it is choice of flights: Zurich has far more international connections, which is why most guests arrive there. If the flight times into Innsbruck suit you, Innsbruck is the shorter journey and the lower fare. Every fare we publish for Lech and the other Arlberg villages is on the price list.

In Lech we drive to the door — there are no restricted zones and no access limits. Every transfer ends at the door your hotel tells us to use. For Oberlech that door depends on where exactly the hotel stands: some we reach by car, others receive your cases through a tunnel or by cable car. The price is the same in every case.

Lech, Omesberg, Stubenbach and Zug

In Lech itself there is nothing to plan around. Hotels, apartments and chalets are all reachable by car, in Omesberg and Stubenbach as well. Zug lies a few kilometres further up the valley and is served in exactly the same way, at the same price as Lech. A taxi to Lech from the airport and a local taxi inside the village are the same vehicles and the same drivers.

Oberlech transfers: how do we and our luggage get up there?

The Innsbruck to Lech transfer can finish in three different places, depending on where in Oberlech you are staying, and which one is right is decided by your hotel. Ask reception how they prefer it for their address — tell us when you book, and that is where we drive.

1. Under the road to the Oberlechbahn

Opposite the valley station of the Oberlechbahn cable car stands the Angerer Garage. For the last two years a hall has run from there underneath the road and into the basement of the valley station. We drive the taxi in, unload your luggage there, and the staff load it into trolleys two metres high. You walk to the lift and ride the gondola up; your luggage is waiting for you at the top station. The gondola runs from 7 in the morning until 1 at night.

It used to be a scramble in front of the lift — taxis, hotel buses, coaches and guests all in the same few metres. Since the hall opened, the cars and the cases are underneath, and the only people outside are those arriving on skis or with nothing to carry.

2. By car to the Umschlaghalle

From the centre of Lech it is two to three kilometres along the road towards Warth; a steep road turns off to the left for Oberlech, and after about two kilometres you reach the Umschlaghalle. It is a large underground hall with hundreds of parking spaces, and every delivery lorry in Oberlech drives into it. At the entrance there is a barrier with a bell: you press it, somebody answers, you say where you are going, and the barrier opens. On the way out it opens by itself.

Tunnels run left and right out of the hall to the individual houses. The hotels collect their guests with electric golf carts pulling trailers — a caretaker takes the cases and brings them into the house. Above those tunnels is the ski slope: no road reaches these hotels at all, only the tunnel from below or skis from above.

Guests may drive into the Umschlaghalle too, if their hotel allows it and has a space there — the registration number has to be given in advance, or the barrier will not open. And without a four-wheel-drive vehicle and chains you end up sideways on that road, which is steep. We drive it in our own 4x4 vehicles all winter.

3. Above the Umschlaghalle

The same steep road carries on for about two kilometres more, until it ends. Up there are hotels and guesthouses that neither the gondola nor the tunnel reaches — for those we drive the taxi all the way to the top.

Lech am Arlberg has no railway station of its own. The two stations used for Lech are Langen am Arlberg, about 15 km away, and St. Anton am Arlberg, about 20 km away. That is the difference between Lech and St. Anton, and it decides which way in suits you.

Private transfer

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall, the luggage goes into the vehicle, and you get out again in front of your accommodation. About 1 hour 35 minutes, from €300 per vehicle for up to eight passengers. Your luggage is loaded once and unloaded once — no platform in between, no connection to catch and no second journey from the station into the village. Door to door, on your own times rather than the timetable’s.

By train and bus

There is no direct train to Lech, because Lech has no station. You first travel from the airport into the city to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, then west to Langen am Arlberg or St. Anton am Arlberg — and on from there by bus or taxi. Public buses run regularly to Lech from both.

Travelling alone with light luggage, that is an inexpensive way in. Four of you with ski bags, boards and cases is a different sum: the luggage comes with you at every change, and at the end you still need a taxi from the station at Langen or St. Anton — which we also drive.

Hire car

There are car hire desks at the airport, and the first hundred kilometres are easy driving. The last twelve are not: the Arlbergpass, Alpe Rauz, the Flexenstraße. In winter you need winter tyres, sometimes chains, and for Oberlech a vehicle that will climb the steep road. There is also this: in Lech you barely need the car — the village runs its own buses, and most of the week is walked or skied.

Which suits whom?

One person with one suitcase travels well and cheaply by train and bus, if the times suit. Anyone planning to range around the region all week should take the hire car. A family or a group with ski equipment has the simplest journey by private transfer — terminal to door, without a single change. The Innsbruck to Lech journey can be made every day of the year, and private transfers to Lech, Zürs and the other Arlberg resorts run on all of them, and you travel on your flight’s timetable rather than on anyone else’s.

For a flight from Innsbruck we leave Lech three and a half hours before departure. That covers the 122-kilometre drive and the time you need at the airport together. There is nothing to add on top — tell us your flight number and we will give you the pickup time.

Half an hour more than from St. Anton, and the reason is the way down: the Flexenstraße first, as far as Alpe Rauz, then over the Arlbergpass and past St. Christoph to reach the S16. From Zürs, Stuben and Klösterle the rule is the same; from St. Anton and St. Christoph it is three hours.

The Lech to Innsbruck run costs the same as the way in: from €300 per vehicle, tolls and ski equipment included. We collect you from your accommodation at any hour, including before daylight when the flight is an early one. Leaving from Oberlech

From Oberlech we plan the pickup differently, and it is worth saying so when you book. Hotels at the Umschlaghalle and the houses higher up we drive to directly. For the houses by the top station the luggage comes down by gondola first — and the gondola starts at 7 in the morning, which is what decides the departure time for an early flight from Innsbruck.
