Most of our winter work is ski transfers. The Innsbruck Airport to St. Anton Route
The road from Innsbruck Airport to St. Anton am Arlberg stays inside Austria from beginning to end: no border, no mountain pass, no tolled tunnel. About 100 kilometres, most of it motorway.
The airport sits in Kranebitten, a district on the western edge of Innsbruck. From there the A12 runs west, signposted Bregenz, Germany and Switzerland, and follows the Inn valley past Telfs, Imst, Zams and Landeck. At Landeck the motorway becomes the S16 and the road turns up the Stanzertal, the valley that climbs to St. Anton.
No tunnel, no toll
We leave the S16 at the exit marked St. Anton am Arlberg / Arlbergpass. The Arlberg road tunnel begins roughly a hundred metres past that exit — on this drive we never reach it, and there is no tunnel toll to pay. It is the same exit we take for St. Christoph, Zürs and Lech.
There are two ways out of Innsbruck as well. Through Kranebitten straight onto the motorway is about 95 kilometres; through the city — Fürstenweg, Bachlechnerstraße, over the bridge and along the Innrain to the slip road — about 100. Both roads are direct and both are ones our drivers know; which one the driver takes is his call on the day, and it makes no difference to the price.
The second way into the valley
Nothing on this drive climbs a mountain pass: the road gains its height gradually along the Stanzertal rather than over a summit. What happens to these roads in heavy snow is set out in our guide on road closures in heavy snow.
The S16 is not the only road into the Stanzertal. Traffic heading into the Arlberg tunnel pays its toll at the portal, and when that backs up the queue occasionally reaches past our exit. We then leave the S16 about ten kilometres earlier, at the ÖMV petrol station by the Schnann turning, and take the Bundesstraße through Pettneu into St. Anton — the same ten kilometres on a different road. That is a decision for the driver at the wheel, not a worry for you in the back — the Innsbruck to St. Anton drive takes the same time either way.
St. Anton am Arlberg lies at 1,304 m at the head of the Stanzertal, and the resort begins where the road ends: the ski lifts, the station and the centre of the village are within a few hundred metres of each other. That is why our transfers finish at your door rather than at a drop-off point — nothing in St. Anton is far enough away to need one.

Skis, snowboards and luggage
Skis and snowboards travel on the rear-door ski rack, outside the cabin — nobody spends the drive with a ski bag across their knees. Ski carriage is free: we charge no equipment supplement the way a shared shuttle does. Boot bags, helmets and suitcases go inside with the rest of the luggage.

How to Get from Innsbruck to St. Anton: All Transport Options
There are three ways to get from Innsbruck Airport to St. Anton am Arlberg: a private transfer, the train, or a hire car. Unlike the journey from Zurich, the train here is a serious alternative — we say so plainly, even though transfers are what we sell.
Private transfer
Your driver waits in the arrivals hall, the luggage goes in the vehicle, and you get out again in front of your accommodation. About 1 hour 15 minutes, from €200 per vehicle for up to eight passengers. No changing platforms with skis, no connections to catch, and no second journey from the station to the hotel. It is the most comfortable and the most convenient of the three, and for a family or a group usually the cheaper one as well, because the price is for the vehicle and not per person.
By train
St. Anton am Arlberg has its own station in the middle of the village, on the Arlbergbahn, and it is a Railjet stop with direct daily connections from Vienna and Zurich. From the airport you first travel into the city to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, then west to St. Anton. Travelling light and without skis, it is a comfortable and inexpensive way in. With a ski bag, a board and cases it means two changes, and at the far end you still need a taxi from the station to your accommodation — which we also drive.
Hire car
There are car hire desks at the airport and the route is an easy one to drive: motorway to Landeck, then the S16. In winter you need winter tyres, in the village you usually need paid parking, and for most of the week the car sits still — almost everything in St. Anton is walkable or reachable by ski bus. If you plan to travel around the region it earns its keep; if you only want the Arlberg and back, you are paying for seven days of standing.

St. Anton Airport Transfer Routes: Innsbruck, Zurich & Munich
Six airports serve a transfer to St. Anton am Arlberg, and Innsbruck is the closest of them all. From there it is about 100 km and around 1 hour 15 minutes; every other airport means a longer journey and a higher price to the same resort.
Distance is not the whole story, though. Zurich Airport is twice as far at 200 km, but it offers by far the widest choice of international flights, which is why most guests arrive there. Altenrhein and Friedrichshafen are small and close; Munich brings in most long-haul travellers, who pay for it with the longest road journey of the six.

The Arlberg resorts we drive to
St. Anton is the largest of the resorts on the Arlberg and the one most guests travel to, but it is not the only one. The others lie within twenty-five kilometres of the village: St. Christoph just above it, Stuben and Klösterle down the Klostertal, Zürs and Lech over the Flexen road.
