The Innsbruck Airport to Zürs am Arlberg Route
The route from Innsbruck Airport to Zürs runs over the Arlbergpass and along the Flexenstraße, and it stays inside Austria from beginning to end. No border and no tunnel toll — but a pass, and then five kilometres that make this drive what it is.
From the airport at Kranebitten the A12 runs west, signposted Bregenz, and follows the Inn valley past Telfs, Imst, Zams and Landeck. At Landeck the motorway becomes the S16 and turns up the Stanzertal.
The roads part at the exit
We leave the S16 at the same exit as for St. Anton am Arlberg — St. Anton / Arlbergpass, about a hundred metres before the Arlberg road tunnel, which carries on without us. For St. Anton the road drops into the village. For Zürs it climbs: over the Arlbergpass at 1,793 m, past St. Christoph at 1,800 m, as far as Alpe Rauz.
Zürs is the first village on the Flexenstraße
At Alpe Rauz the Flexenstraße turns north — the L198, which runs through galleries cut into the rock face. Five kilometres later you are in Zürs, at 1,717 m. Lech lies further up the same road; anyone going to Zürs stops before it.
No other resort on the Arlberg sits higher, and no other mountain road we drive looks like this one. The galleries are the stretch of the Innsbruck to Zürs drive that people remember: half-open passages of stone and concrete hung on the cliff, with the valley underneath. They were built to hold the road against avalanches and rockfall, and that is still what they do — they are the reason Zürs stays reachable through the winter. Skis, snowboards and luggage
Skis and snowboards travel on the rear-door ski rack, outside the cabin — nobody spends the drive with a ski bag across their knees. Ski carriage is free: we charge no equipment supplement the way a shared shuttle does. Boot bags, helmets and suitcases go inside with the rest of the luggage.

How to Get from Innsbruck Airport to Zürs: All Transport Options
Zürs am Arlberg has no railway station of its own. The stations used for Zürs are Langen am Arlberg and St. Anton am Arlberg, and from either you continue by bus or taxi over the Flexenstraße. That is what decides which way in suits you.

By train and bus
There is no direct train to Zürs, because Zürs has no station. You first travel from the airport into the city to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, then west to Langen am Arlberg or St. Anton, and on from there by bus or taxi. Travelling alone with light luggage, that is an inexpensive way in; four of you with ski bags and cases is a different sum. At the far end you also still need a taxi from the station — which we also drive.
Which suits whom?
Travelling alone with light luggage, the train and bus work well if the times suit. Anyone planning to travel around the region all week should take the hire car. A family or a group travelling with ski equipment has the simplest journey by private transfer — terminal to door, on your own times rather than the timetable’s. However you make the Innsbruck to Zürs journey, the last fifteen kilometres are the same.
