The Innsbruck Airport to St. Christoph am Arlberg Route
After the motorway exit there are seven kilometres of climbing left — the shortest finish of any route we drive. The journey stays inside Austria from beginning to end: no border, no tunnel toll, and nothing to go round.
From the airport at Kranebitten the A12 runs west, signposted Bregenz, and follows the Inn valley past Telfs, Imst, Zams and Landeck. At Landeck the motorway becomes the S16 and turns up the Stanzertal.
The same exit as for St. Anton
We leave the S16 at the exit marked St. Anton am Arlberg / Arlbergpass, about a hundred metres before the Arlberg road tunnel, which carries on without us. For St. Anton the road drops into the village from there; for St. Christoph it climbs. Seven kilometres of pass road, and you are at 1,800 metres.
Two mountain roads carry on from here
The Innsbruck to St. Christoph transfer ends where the Arlberg opens up. Above the village the roads divide: the Flexenstraße turns north at Alpe Rauz and the pass road falls away west. Both are mountain roads, and both begin here. Staying in St. Christoph means staying at the junction of the whole Arlberg.
The road the village was built for
St. Christoph stands where it stands because of this road — the one the Innsbruck to St. Christoph transfer still climbs today. Skis, snowboards and luggage
Skis and snowboards travel on the rear-door ski rack, outside the cabin — nobody spends the drive with a ski bag across their knees. Ski carriage is free: we charge no equipment supplement the way a shared shuttle does. Boot bags, helmets and suitcases go inside with the rest of the luggage.

Hire car
There are car hire desks at the airport, and the first hundred kilometres are easy driving. The last seven are pass road, climbing to 1,800 metres. In winter you need winter tyres, sometimes chains. In the village itself you barely need the car: the lifts start at the road.
Which suits whom?
The buses between St. Anton and St. Christoph run to a timetable; the times do not suit every flight, and before daylight they do not run at all. Travelling alone with light luggage, the route through St. Anton is inexpensive if the times suit. Anyone planning to travel around the region all week should take the hire car. A family or a group with ski equipment has the simplest journey by private transfer — terminal to door, without a single change. However you make the Innsbruck to St. Christoph journey, the last seven kilometres climb.
