Stuben is the smallest of the five ski resorts on the Arlberg and one of the least changed. The Albona above it is not a mountain for freshly groomed piste but one for the days after a snowfall — north-facing slopes that hold the powder. People who choose Stuben usually know exactly why they are not choosing St. Anton.

Most of our winter work is ski transfers. The valley station of the Albonabahn stands in the village, on the same road we arrive by — and skis and snowboards travel free on the rear rack, outside the cabin. The Innsbruck Airport to Stuben am Arlberg Route
Two roads lead to Stuben am Arlberg, and we drive both. Over the Arlbergpass, or through the Arlberg road tunnel and out again at Langen. Stuben is the only village on the Arlberg you can reach both over the pass and underneath it. Both roads are around 115 kilometres and both stay inside Austria from beginning to end.
From the airport at Kranebitten the A12 runs west, signposted Bregenz, and follows the Inn valley past Telfs, Imst, Zams and Landeck. At Landeck the motorway becomes the S16. At the exit marked St. Anton am Arlberg / Arlbergpass we leave the S16, about a hundred metres before the Arlberg road tunnel, and climb over the pass at 1,793 m past St. Christoph.
Road 1: over the Arlbergpass
We leave the S16 at the exit marked St. Anton am Arlberg / Arlbergpass and climb over the pass at 1,793 m, past St. Christoph at 1,800 m. At Alpe Rauz the Flexenstraße turns north — that is the way to Zürs. We stay on the pass road, which falls away west and ends a few kilometres later in the village, at 1,409 m.
Road 2: through the Arlberg tunnel
Or we stay on the S16 and drive through the Arlberg road tunnel. At the western portal, by Langen am Arlberg, we come out and climb three kilometres of the L197 — about five minutes, and you are in Stuben. That road saves driving through St. Anton and saves the climb and descent over the pass. The tunnel toll is inside the fixed price; you never pay it separately.
Which road we take

Arriving from the west there is no such choice: the transfer from Zurich leaves the motorway network at Langen and climbs the same three kilometres.

Skis, snowboards and luggage
Skis and snowboards travel on the rear-door ski rack, outside the cabin — nobody spends the drive with a ski bag across their knees. Ski carriage is free: we charge no equipment supplement the way a shared shuttle does. Boot bags, helmets and suitcases go inside with the rest of the luggage.

Stuben am Arlberg has no railway station of its own, but the nearest one is only three kilometres away: Langen am Arlberg, at the western portal of the Arlberg tunnel. That is closer than for any other village on the Arlberg — and it changes the sum.

By train and bus
There is no direct train to Stuben, but Langen is close enough that rail is more of a contender here than anywhere else. You travel from the airport into Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, then west through the Arlberg tunnel to Langen — and from there it is three kilometres up the L197. We drive those last three kilometres too, as a taxi from the station — about five minutes. St. Anton am Arlberg station is an option as well, but it is around twelve kilometres away on the other side of the mountain. For Stuben, Langen is both the nearer station and the simpler one.
Hire car
There are car hire desks at the airport, and the first hundred kilometres are easy driving. The last fifteen are pass road, up and then down again. In winter you need winter tyres, sometimes chains. In Stuben itself you barely need the car: the village is small and the valley station of the Albonabahn stands at the road.
Which suits whom?
Buses and taxis run from Langen into Stuben: the bus goes when the timetable says so, the taxi when you arrive. Travelling alone with light luggage, the route through Langen is inexpensive if the times suit. Anyone planning to travel around the region all week should take the hire car. A family or a group with ski equipment has the simplest journey by private transfer — terminal to door, without a single change. The Innsbruck to Stuben road is the same whichever way you travel it.
